October  2001

Thanks to the nineteen Howard Lake Lion members who attended the zone meeting here on September 18th.  Including our members there were forty-nine in attendance that night. The next zone meeting will be on Monday, November 26th at the KC Hall in Waverly.  The Waverly and Delano Lions will be co-hosting it.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 4th at our meeting place.  There will be a meal that night which will be at 7:00 P.M. with the business meeting to follow.   The meal will be cooked and served by Lion Denise Oberpriller.  The second meeting will take place on Thursday, October 18th.  A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M with the business meeting to follow.  No one has volunteered to do the meal for this meeting.  If interested, please let Lion Steve know by the next meeting so it can be put in the H.L. Herald.

THANK YOU to the many H.L. Lion members who helped out at the community appreciation dinner on August 25th.  It was very much appreciated.  A big thank you to the committee who put in countless hours to make this work.  The members of this committee were Lions Mike Main (chairperson), Terry Thorson, Dan Judd, Mel Lahr, Tom Fiecke, and Vern Lemke.

Thanks to Lion Matt Grindeland for organizing a “members only” golf outing for our Lions Club on Saturday, September 8th at the The Greens in Howard Lake.  A good time was had by all that participated.  The proceeds from this outing went towards a needy family.  Thanks also to Lions Mel & Renee Lahr for the barbecue and a potluck meal at their residence.

We are still taking orders for our new Lions shirts.  The cost of the shirts is as follows:  $18 for sizes S – XL; $20 for sizes XXL; and $21 for sizes XXXL.   You must pay for the shirt when ordering.  If interested in ordering a shirt but cannot attend one of our meetings, you can order one by mail by sending a check (payable to Howard Lake Lions) with your name and shirt size to Howard Lake Lions; P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN  55349.

The Mid-Winter Convention will be held at the Marriott in Bloomington on January 18,19, and 20, 2002. Rooms this year are $78.75 per reservation.  When making your reservation, you must pay for your rooms either by check or credit card.  Also, if you are rooming with someone, please specify what type of room you prefer (double beds, king-size bed, or no preference & smoking, non-smoking, or no preference).  Reservations will be accepted starting October 1, 2001.  You can also purchase a meal book for $50 per person if ordered by December 31st.  If you purchase a meal book after December 31st, the cost goes up to $53.  The meal books will not be sold at the convention.  If you wish to purchase single meals, the cost of each meal is as follows: Saturday Luncheon ($14.00); Governor’s Banquet ($23.25); and Sunday Brunch ($14.00).  Just like the meal book, the price of the individual meals goes up $1 per meal if ordered after December 31st.  There will also be a Melvin Jones breakfast on the Saturday morning of the convention.  (This is for Melvin Jones recipients only.)  The cost of the breakfast is $13.  The chairperson for the convention this year is Lion Joyce Thorson.  You can make your reservations by seeing her at one of the upcoming meetings (not the October 4th meeting) or by calling her (763-658-2012).
