November  2001

Congratulations to Lion Harvey Krohn on being inducted as a new member in the Howard Lake Lions Club at our October 18th meeting.  Lion Harvey’s sponsor was Lion Duane Hass.  The induction was performed by PDG Lion Steve “Fuzzy” Halseth.

Thanks to Lion Denise Oberpriller for the superb meal at our October 4th meeting.  Also, thank you to Lions Chris Bickmann and Steve Weber (actually his mother) for the excellent meal at our October 18th meeting.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 1st at our meeting place.  There will be a meal that night which will be at 7:00 P.M. with the business meeting to follow.   The meal will be cooked and served by Lion Gloria Wheeler.  The second meeting will take place on Thursday, October 18th. A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M with the business meeting to follow.  The FFA Chapter from HLWW High School will be doing cooking and serving the meal for this meeting.  The meal will be at 7:00 P.M. with the regular business meeting to follow.

We are still taking orders for our new Lions shirts.  The cost of the shirts is as follows:  $18 for sizes S – XL; $20 for sizes XXL; and $21 for sizes XXXL.   You must pay for the shirt when ordering.  If interested in ordering a shirt but cannot attend one of our meetings, you can order one by mail by sending a check (payable to Howard Lake Lions) with your name and shirt size to Howard Lake Lions; P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN  55349.

The Mid-Winter Convention will be held at the Marriott in Bloomington on January 18,19, and 20, 2002. Rooms this year are $78.75 per reservation.  When making your reservation, you must pay for your rooms either by check or credit card.  Also, if you are rooming with someone, please specify what type of room you prefer (double beds, king-size bed, or no preference & smoking, non-smoking, or no preference).  Reservations will now be accepted.  The cutoff date for reservations is November 15th.  You can also purchase a meal book for $50 per person if ordered by December 31st.  If you purchase a meal book after December 31st, the cost goes up to $53.  The meal books will not be sold at the convention.  If you wish to purchase single meals, the cost of each meal is as follows: Saturday Luncheon ($14.00); Governor’s Banquet ($23.25); and Sunday Brunch ($14.00).  Just like the meal book, the price of the individual meals goes up $1 per meal if ordered after December 31st.  There will also be a Melvin Jones breakfast on the Saturday morning of the convention.  (This is for Melvin Jones recipients only.)  The cost of the breakfast is $13.  The chairperson for the convention this year is Lion Joyce Thorson.  You can make your reservations by seeing her at one of the upcoming meetings or by calling her (763-658-2012).

Our club is looking at a new pin for this year.  If you have any ideas, please contact Lion Darrell Main ASAP.
