March 2004

Thank you to Lions Nancy and Darrell Main on the excellent meal at our
February 5th meeting.  Also, thanks to Paul Fobbe and his SLAM students for
the superb meal at our Feb. 19th meeting.

Thanks to Laurel McCray and his Hearing and Service dog, Heidi.  Laurel told
our club of his experience when he went deaf; how he acquired Heidi; and how
Heidi has made a big difference in his life.  He also gave a video
presentation on the Hearing and Service Dogs and thanked our club for
sponsoring the program.

Thanks to Region Chair Mike Main, from the MERLO team for giving a
presentation on the retention.  Lion Mike also presented several club
members who attended this year's Midwinter Convention with "gifts" to remind
them of what a wonderful time they had.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, March 4th at our regular meeting
place. Our regular business meeting will be at 7:00 P.M.  PDG Larry Kounkle
will be our guest speaker at this meeting.  He will be speaking about the
Hearing Foundation.

Our second meeting will be take place on Thursday, March 18th also at our
meeting place.  There will be a Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 P.M.
followed by our regular business meeting at 7:00 P.M.

Our Lions club will be holding our annual pancake breakfast on Sunday, April
4th (Palm Sunday) at the Howard Lake Legion.  Following the breakfast that
afternoon, our club will be having Bingo at the Legion. Times for these two
events will be published in next month's newsletter.

On Saturday, April 10th, our Lions club will be holding our annual Easter
Egg Hunt out at Memorial Park in Howard Lake.  Lion Duane Hass will once
again be the chairperson for this event.  The fun starts at 10:00 A.M.  If
you are able to help out that day, please be there!  More details in next
month's newsletter.

Thank you notes were received from the Minnesota Eye Bank, Camp Friendship,
and the American Diabetes Assoc. for our recent donations.

On page three of this newsletter, there is a form for a list of nominations
for the Helen Keller Award and for the Hearing Foundation Fellow.  Please
follow the instructions on the bottom of the form.
Our club made a cash donation to the After Prom Party Committee. Our club
also donated to Curtis Larson, a member of the H.L. Boy Scouts. The money
will be used towards the purchase of lumber for two picnic tables that he
wants to build in order to achieve the ranking of Eagle Scout.

Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be
celebrating a birthday in March: Mike Main (4); Don Oestreich (10); Sam
Gruenhagen (16); Denise Oberpriller (17); and Denny Frey (28).
