December 2000

Thanks to the FFA chapter from HLWW High School for cooking a superb meal at our Nov. 2nd meeting.  Also, thanks to Lion Joyce Thorson for the excellent meal at our Nov. 16th meeting.

On Thursday, December 7th our club will hold our annual Governor’s Night/Christmas party at our regular meeting place.  The social hour will begin at 6:30 P.M. with the meal at 7:30 and the program to follow.  The meal once again will be potluck.   We will also have a gift exchange this year.  If you do bring one, please keep the cost of the gift under $10.00.  All Howard Lake Lions and Lionesses are invited.  Spouses and significant others are also invited to attend.  We will also be installing two new members into our club that night.

Our only meeting this month will be on Thursday, December 21st at our regular meeting place.  A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M.   A meal will be cooked and served by Lion Gloria Wheeler, which will be at 7:00 P.M. with the business meeting to follow at 7:30.

Donations this past month were made to: (1) the HLWW travelling basketball program to help pay for uniforms; (2) Peer Helpers; and (3) to the Hanover Lions for their 25th anniversary as a club.
The 2001 Midwinter Convention will be taking place on January 19, 20, and 21 at the Marriot Hotel in Bloomington.  If you are interested in attending, you must have your rooms reserved and paid for by no later than Thursday, December 7th. (The cost of the rooms is $76.50 per night.) Money for your meals must be paid by December 21st. (A meal registration form is included in this newsletter.) Any questions, please contact Lion Chris Bickmann (763-675-2011)

Any H.L. Lion members attending the Gambling Seminar on Friday, Jan. 19th at 1:00 P.M. will have the cost of their room reimburse by the Gambling manager.  Also, any H.L. Lion members attending a seminar and/or the afternoon business meeting on Saturday, Jan. 20th  will have the cost of their rooms reimburse by the club.  You will also be reimbursed for mileage.

To the Melvin Jones Award winners: If you are interested in attending the Melvin Jones breakfast on Saturday morning (7:00 A.M.) of the convention, you need to have it paid for by no later December 21st.  The cost of the breakfast is $13.00.  Make your check payable to the 5M7 Convention.

Congratulations to Lions Dan and Erin Judd on the birth of a son, Benjamin Gary, on Sunday, October 29th at 10:01 A.M.

Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be celebrating a birthday in December: Joyce Thorson (2); Jim Stellman (4); Dean Stenberg (18); and Linda Amman (29).

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE:

Learn from the mistakes of others.  You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.

Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than going to MacDonald’s made you a hamburger.

Sometimes the majority only means that all the fools are on the same side.
