August  2000

Congratulations to all the new officers who were installed at our Installation Night on July 6th.  Let’s make sure that we give these new officers all of our support.  If we do, this next year will go real smooth just like last year.  Also, thanks to all the officers who served this past year.  It was very much appreciated.  Thank you also to PDG Steve “Fuzzy” Halseth for performing the installation that night.

Thanks are also in order to Red’s Café of Montrose for catering our meal on July 6th.  The food was very good.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, August 3rd at our regular meeting place.  Social hour is at 6:30 P.M.  There will be a meal at 7:00 P.M. on this night.  The meal will be cook and served by  Lions Bernie Rohling and Doug Bakken.  Following the meal, we will have our regular business meeting.

Our second meeting will take place on Thursday, August 17 at our regular meeting place.  A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M.  So far, no member has volunteered to cook for this meeting.   If interested, please contact Lion Steve Weber so it can be put in the Herald.  If there is no meal, the regular business meeting will be at 7:00 P.M.  If there is a meal, the meeting will be at 7:30 P.M. with the meal at 7:00 P.M.

The Howard Lake Lions 3rd annual golf tournament on Saturday, July 8th at The Greens in Howard Lake went reasonably well despite the heat. Thanks to Lion Steve Weber for putting this tournament together.  Also, thanks to Lions Melmer and Renee Lahr for the use of their residence for the potluck meal following the golf.

Congratulations to Lion Monica Boedisheimer who was installed as a new member of our club at our July 20th meeting.  Lion Monica’s sponsor was Lion Doug Bakken.  The installation was performed by PDG Lion Darrell Main.

Donations made this past month were as follows: (1) Travelling HLWW Softball program; (2) Summer work program at the local high school; (3) HLWW High School for the new high school handbooks; (4) HLWW High School for the STAR program; (5) to a local Boy Scout to help cover expenses so he can attend the National Jamboree next year; and (6) to the Salvation Army for flood relief in Eagan.

At our last board meeting in July, it was decided that a Howard Lake Lions expense receipt be used when charging any supplies to our Lions Club.  Lion Treasurer Terry Thorson handed these slips out to all who attended the last meeting.  This slips need to be filled out along with the store receipt.  If you need these slips, please contact Lion Terry Thorson.

Finally, thanks to all Lions members who helped out with the various events during Good Neighbor Days this past June.  It was very much appreciated.  We will be involved in the GND activities along with the HLFD next year.
If you are one of those members who still have not paid your membership dues ($40), please do so ASAP.  You can pay them either by attending one of our upcoming meetings or mail them to P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN  55349.

Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be celebrating a birthday in August: Tim Oberpriller (13); Tom Main (17); Stan Roberts (26); and Stan Holm (29).
